How to design the perfect wedding flowers?
Mel and Mark’s Wedding 28/1/12
Every bride wants their wedding day to be perfect, and it is the little things that make it so. For me as a florist and wedding consultant, it means picking up on the little things and drawing these into the wedding flowers. When you think about it, flowers can tie all the elements of the wedding together – from the gowns to the table decorations to the ceremony.
Graphic designer Mel’s theme for her wedding to Mark was Vintage Glamour. Elegant with a modern twist. When we first met to discuss the wedding flowers, all Mel knew was she loved roses. So with that we talked through different ideas and the other elements from her wedding. Her gown was a gorgeous Grecian style with a cluster of Silver beading on the bodice. Very ethereal! From this we decided on her theme for the flowers: cream roses and silver berries to pick up on the silver beading on her gown, all adorned with a gorgeous silver and pearl brooches that Mel found on-line.
As the day approached we spoke to finalise the flowers. You know when a bride trusts you to make their wedding flowers perfect when they say “Just Surprise Me!” So we did.

Phaleaenopsis Orchids
For most of the year we stock these stunning orchids as a living plant. Each flower is like a delicate butterfly poised for flight. Surprisingly they last very well, even in the warmer weather.
This morning our grower sent us some lovely cut stems of phalaenopsis orchids in a deep pinky purple - so beautiful! Our designers have created some gorgeous gifts using these blushing beauties:
Butterfly Kiss - Cleverly displayed in a white ceramic pot with pretty leaves and twigs. Read more....
Delicate Elegance - Simply delivered in the Pearsons striped long box with a great little vase and lovely foliage, they are a gift for the most discerning flower buyer. Read more....

Welcome the Dragon
In Sydney we love to take our inspiration from the many and varied celebrations that are enjoyed by all. Next Monday 23rd January we celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome the dragon, the most powerful symbol of the Chinese Zodiac.
Our designers love the chance to combine "East meets West" floral styling to create gorgeous arrangements using lovely lush colours and textural elemements of bamboo, leaves and twigs. Visiting one of the great Asian supermarkets in Chinatown, we found bright red and gold lanterns and knew we had to incorporate them into a floral arrangement. With bamboo we built the structure and then we combined deep red roses, glossy anthuriums and gold orchids in a round glass vase. And 'voila' we have created "Luck & Prosperity".

Glorious Gloriosa Lilys
Some flowers are so special that we are happy to have them even if only for a few days. Today we were absolutely thrilled to find gloriosa lilys in the market! The grower told us that the next crop would not be available for a few weeks as these tender blooms are being affected by the unseasonably cool summer that we are having. Look at the intensity of colour in the gorgeous sunset coloured ones in the first picture or the beauty of the pinky ones in the vase below.
Let's enjoy them while we can. Glorious Gloriosa!

Valentines Day Red Rose Fever
Here we are, already halfway through January of 2012 and like all good florists our thoughts turn to Valentine's Day. It really is the most wonderful day of the year for the romantic at heart. A day to share with someone you love and remind them of how special they are.
For a large florist like Pearsons, our challenge every year is to keep our product range fresh and fabulous whilst still providing the classic gifts that everyone knows and loves.
Of course, we offer red roses, still the most popular choice for Valentine's Day. A gift of the best long-stemmed, ruby red roses is always beautiful. This year our boxes are new - dark stripey Pearsons purple which really sets off the luscious crimson of the roses.

Apart from our signature rose boxes we are always looking for a beautiful fresh way to present our red roses and this year we are absolutley obsessed by hearts. Every gift delivered on Valentine's day will have a small but pretty filigree heart attached with glossy ribbon - beautiful!
Our fabulous French designer, Marc, has created romantic hearts of roses to be presented entwined with a delectable box of Lindt Chocolates - the ultimate gift.

In these arrangements pictured above and below they provide an amazing focal point of deep bluey purple - perfect to match the client brief for this function.

Deck the halls for Christmas
Fresh flowers and foliage make very special decorations at Christmas time. Not only are they unique - no two flowers are ever the same - they can be tailor made to suit your colour scheme or theme over the festive season.
Following the trends in fashion we are loving a touch of orange this year. A great way to personalise your table is with a gorgeous vase of seasonal blooms matching the colours on your tree and room decorations.
A sure fire way to welcome your guests to your home for Christmas is a gorgeous fresh foliage wreath. To combat the steamy summer weather in Sydney we make our wreaths from long lasting native leaves and blooms - guaranteed to stand up to the hottest Christmas day!

This wedding from last weekend was so pretty and romantic it is one of our current favourites. It's the perfect time of the year for the full blown flowers that make this look so gorgeous. Pearsons Buttonhole Station at GPO for Melbourne Cup
Pearsons were part of the celebrations for Melbourne Cup at the GPO this year. Marcel and Sam from the Pearsons Design Centre and Jess from our MLC Store pinned free rose buttonholes on over 400 guests at the fabulous GPO in Martin Place Sydney.
As always a fantastic time was had by everyone involved.

Is this the most beautiful flower of the year?
We are all in love with the fabulous peony once again! Every year in late spring when the gorgeous peony season arrives we all agree that it really is the most beautiful bloom.
When the first buckets arrive at the markets with their tiny little buds you can feel the excitement in the early morning air. At first glance these tight buds don't give any hint of the beauties that they will turn into.
After a couple of days the tight little buds spread their wings and bloom and start to show their amazing colours. After 5 days they are ready to show off and they look spectacular!
We are absolutely loving the colours this year - coral, soft pink, deep pink and a cloud of delicate white.

Stunning Princettia
The gorgeous Princettia is a compact growing poinsettia which has unusual pink bracts (like flowers) instead of the more commonly available bright red (that we all know and love at Christmas time!). It is a small shrub that lasts well indoors and can flower for months at a time.
This fabulous new look Princettia is available in store now.

Hooray for Hippeastrum!
Hip, hip hooray it's time for hippeastrum. These bold voluptuous flowers are in season now and they look fantastic. Each bloom is a large flared trumpet shape on a thick fleshy stem. The range of colours is fantastic, from deep red to salmon pink, rose pink, lemon, lime and clear white, and some have contrasting stripes, petal edges or throats.
We love these stripey ones - especially up close.

Can't function without flowers?
How do you know what flowers will be right for your function?
Flowers set the mood, they are the icing on the cake that is your big event. Whether it is your wedding, a corporate affair, product launch or client party, the flowers provide the finishing touch.
The photos below are from recent functions in Sydney, each one required Pearsons designers to create a different look to suit the venue and the event.

The photos below are from recent functions in Sydney, each one required Pearsons designers to create a different look to suit the venue and the event.
For this first event the flowers needed to be understated and very elegant to suit the beautiful venue and the clientele at this business lunch. To keep the design low and non-intrusive, the flowers and vines were twisted within the simple round vase. The bright orange tulips provided a pop of colour!
To create a different look for another event the client needed a more colourful and opulent design. For this lunch at a spectacular harbourside venue our designers created these bright yet masculine designs to provide a pop of vibrancy in this elegant setting.

Pearsons hosts successful OPEN DAY 2011!
Pearsons store in Darlinghurst was transformed into a Secret Garden for our School of Floristry OPEN DAY last Saturday 8th October. Over 300 people visited us for floral demonstrations, fabulous flower displays, student competitions, flower sales and more.
Students from Term 3 and Term 4 of our Certificate III in Floristry competed in a Mystery Bucket challenge inspired by Masterchef. The 16 competitors arrived 15 minutes before the start of the competition to read their brief and see their flowers and materials. They were brilliant! Onlookers were amazed at the way each student were able to take the same materials and transform them into their own unique design. each group had 1 hour to complete their design.
Our gorgeous courtyard was transformed into a secret garden incorporating an old-style truck into a garden bed, fabulous wedding displays, a tree of fluttering ribbons and cascading wall of flowers. It's the best kept secret in Darlinghurst!
